AMERICAN DESIRE (USA 1981)
This little masterpiece marked the end of the great time of Lasse Braun, the King Of Porn, like he always calls himelf. After this movie he made only few films which are not worth to talk about. And it's the first movie that Lasse Braun has shot in the USA. This fact makes it possible that we can once more see one of the most perfect pair of The Golden Age Of Porn: Veronica Hart and Robert Bolla (also to see in Angel Buns).
Veronica Hart and Robert Bolla are playing a very enamored couple which searches for erotic inspiration. Bolla reveals his wife that he hopes to find this inspiration with other ladys and advises his wife to look for sexual adventures with other men as well to rescue their conjugal sex life. His wife agrees hesitantly but she wants to talk with her father about it before realizing the plan. To her own surprise she notices that her dad has already solved the same problem during his marriage. For him it feels good to know that his wife is happy because she has sex with a stranger.
It's crystal clear how the story goes on. Our lovely pair has exciting meetings with strange people which really freshes up their own sex life. At the end, Robert Bolla has even the temerity to invite his hottest source of erotic inspiration to the final amorous play with his wife: Lysa Thatcher joins this play and we see what a so called three-way deal is. But it is more than only that: we are shown an extraordinary impassioned and sensual three-way deal which is played very well and, in comparison to other pornmovies, is badly rare to see in this intensity.
It's the ability of the director to take distance from the stereotyped view of sex in pornmovies what distinguishes this and lots of other movies of Lasse Braun. It's not that sex and pornography will be new invented in his movies, but indeed the presentation of sex and porn by Lasse Braun is very different from scene to scene and from film to film. For this reason his films are never boring and each one has its own style. Sex Maniacs is very rude, Sensations is full of drugdrunken pictures and very vanguard and Body Love is atmospheric engrossed. And American Desire?
Stylistically Braun has adjusted this film to its environment, because American Desire is very american in the best sense and it needs getting used to fans of Lasse Braun's previous movies. What makes it easier: Andy Wahrhol posters on the wall - the cool America so to say, and, of course, the glamorous and very intensive sexscenes which only Lasse Braun is able to capture.
The very feathery coitus-scene with Mai Lin and George Payne as well as the glaring double-penetration with Veronica Hart, the litte SM-adventure which Lysa Thatcher is inviting us to and finally the romantic and sensual-passionate final: It is like Tuppy Owens, who is to see in Senstions, says in the tv- documentation The adventurous life of Lasse Braun: "For me, Braun's pornmovies are the only ones who makes sex looks so good like sex should feels like." And indeed it seems that Braun wants to defend his title as The King Of Porn in every minute of this movie. He has reached this intention completely and so American Desire is a wonderful late work of a great director.
